Who's the instructor?

Educators.

The main one is James McManus.

My name is James McManus, and I have been tutoring college students and preparing high school students for college success ever since I WAS a college student. I was a relatively smart guy who went to a great public high school, but I wasn't really truly prepared for the independence of college.

Thankfully I went to The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, where I was taught (often without much choice) to manage my time and organize myself. I was an education major, so I taught myself how to study and experimented with different ways of organizing my notes and materials. By the time I was a senior, I was the Regimental Academic Officer, responsible for "ensuring the academic well-being of all cadets on campus." I put together a program for all freshmen at The Citadel titled "How to Succeed in College" that led to a remarkable improvement in the GPAs of the class.

Over the last few years I've continued to research college success with other graduates, teachers, and students, running polls and surveys or just talking over lunch. That's why I refer to us as "we" in this class; there are a LOT of people who've given their advice towards this course (knowingly and unknowingly) over the years.

I've also worked with students on pretty much everything including:
  • Picking a college
  • Interacting with professors
  • Choosing a study abroad program
  • Applying for internships/fellowships
  • Fixing sleep schedules
  • Eating healthy
  • Taking notes
  • Writing essays
  • Conducting research
  • Embodying the right mindset
  • Setting habits
  • Doing laundry
  • Rushing for frats/sororities
  • Leading others

You name it, I've probably helped someone with it!

That doesn't really make me an expert (because I'm always still learning as well), but I've got enough experience to make this statement:
If you follow all of the advice in this course, it's a pretty safe bet you're going to do well in college.

If you'd like to work with me or one of the other coaches one-on-one, feel free to schedule a meeting here!
